It's all about fast cars and passing each other

This is a picture of me in relief society. Can you see me?

Okay. So maybe it's not quite that extreme. But that's what it feels like. Provo has a bad influence on me. I have talked with a good friend of mine several times about whatever it is about Provo that makes people feel bad about themselves.

Most of the students at BYU are doing pretty well with their lives. They are driven. They are smart, talented, good-looking, thin, and friendly. The competition is cutthroat. Everyone is desperately trying to be more talented, more spiritual, more attractive--more whatever it is than everyone else is.

Anyway, I've noticed that this attitude is affecting me. I spend way too much time worrying about myself and my inadequacies. I don't like it, and I don't like how it makes me feel.

I've been thinking about this lately, so the timing was perfect for me to find this website. I spent some time this afternoon reading through some of their articles, and I like it. I also decided that it is time for me to go on a media fast. Obviously I can't eliminate the internet completely, but from today through April 23 I am not going to watch any movies or television shows. One month with slightly diminished negative media influence. I guess it won't change Provo, but maybe it will help me deal with it a little better.

are you the brunette barbie? if so, I've got nothing for you.

if, on the other hand, you are the t-rex - that's awesome! any 9 year old boy could tell you that t-rex is the second coolest of all the dinosaurs (after velociraptor). time for a rampage through campus

Love it - Except I'm the dino - Dad and I are in the top twenty oldest in our ward - and there is a whole lot more variety in our ward!
Good luck with the fast - I am excited to see how it changes your perspective... Maybe at the other end you can blog about it?...;-)
I love your guts - all of you, actually!

LOVE your blog. I saw the picture and immediately thought of our conversation.

I never thought about Provo that way.. it's interesting because I could totally see how that's a problem. I'm sure if I lived there that I'd feel it too. I want to go on a media fast also. It's really interesting to see the influence that the media has on people. I know that when I'm not so concerned with the media that I feel better and I don't care so much about the worldly things but more about that things of Heavenly Father.

YOU GO GIRL! :) LOVE YOU! (I got your message last night... CRAZY how 5 months went by already!!!)

I would love to be a dinosaur. Barbie can't even stand on her ankles, anyway. What good are weak ankles (unless you're Meg on Hercules)?
